New Projects, Medical Care, and Support for Women in Vulnerable Communities
Uncertainty remains a constant part of daily life in Syria. Ongoing tensions across the country and the wider region continue to undermine stability, forcing millions of civilians to live with insecurity and unpredictability.
Against this backdrop, Support and Sustain Children recently carried out a new field mission to monitor ongoing projects, meet local communities, and launch new initiatives aimed at supporting the most vulnerable people.
ESPERO Projects Move into the Operational Phase
One of the main objectives of the mission was to visit the three construction sites established through ESPERO, a program that supports young female engineers in developing projects designed to improve the lives of their communities.
During the mission, the first installment of payments was made to suppliers, and construction work has already begun. The projects are expected to become fully operational within the coming weeks.
ESPERO represents a significant investment in women’s skills, leadership, and economic independence, giving young professionals the opportunity to lead meaningful initiatives and actively contribute to the social and economic recovery of their communities.
Supporting Orphans and the Most Vulnerable Families
The mission also included a visit to the organization’s Help Point, which serves as a vital support center for orphans and families facing extreme hardship.
Through this facility, essential aid distributions are organized, and particularly vulnerable cases receive ongoing monitoring and support.
Special attention was given to children requiring specialized medical care, including hospitalized patients and children undergoing complex treatment programs. Among them are young burn survivors receiving laser therapy to help treat severe injuries sustained during years of conflict.
Karuna: A New Project Dedicated to Women
One of the most significant outcomes of the mission was the launch of Karuna, a new project that will officially begin in September.
The word Karuna means “deep compassion” and refers to a concept that goes beyond empathy: the ability to transform an understanding of another person’s suffering into meaningful action.
The project is designed for women living in highly vulnerable circumstances who often carry the responsibility of supporting their families while coping with years of trauma, loss, and deprivation.
Karuna aims to provide a safe space for healing, personal growth, and emotional support, helping women recognize and address their own wounds so they can become a source of strength for their children and their communities.
The first introductory meeting took place during this mission and confirmed the urgent need for such a program.
Building Hope in the Midst of Crisis
In a country where millions of people continue to face immense challenges, every completed project represents a concrete step toward a more dignified future.
From promoting women’s empowerment to supporting orphans, from providing medical assistance to creating opportunities for emotional recovery, Support and Sustain Children remains committed to standing alongside Syrian communities and transforming hope into lasting opportunities for change.
