The most recent mission to the Refugee Camp was one of the most effective and meaningful in recent years for the Support and Sustain Children team.

For the first time, the team included two doctors and an Arabic-speaking interpreter who is also fluent in Italian. This marked a turning point: in the past, communication relied on English-Arabic translation, requiring indirect mediation. This time, the exchange between the Italian team and the families was direct and immediate, allowing for much deeper understanding and connection.

One of the main focuses was the continuation of the scabies treatment campaign, addressing a widespread and contagious skin infection. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the necessary medicines – both topical and oral – were purchased locally, making it possible to treat nearly the entire camp population.
Since scabies spreads through prolonged contact, treatment included not only symptomatic individuals but also those living close to them, in a wide-reaching and preventive approach.

Another key achievement was the full census of the Camp: tent by tent, family by family, all data were carefully updated and verified, including information on families supported through long-distance sponsorship.
Alongside this, a targeted survey of newborns was conducted, with each baby examined by the medical team. This will ensure a fair distribution of baby formula based on real, individual needs.

More than half of the mission was dedicated to this meticulous work. The distribution of food parcels and baby milk will take place in the coming days, led by the local coordinator and her husband, who were entrusted with the updated lists.

A new initiative was also launched with small groups of mothers, focusing on nutrition and hygiene – two key pillars of child health. This initial awareness work will be followed up with structured activities in the coming months.

During the mission, the team also:

  • completed the distribution of sponsorship support to orphans and vulnerable families;
  • visited the thriving tent school, now welcoming an impressive number of children with energy and quality education;
  • and took charge of several urgent medical cases, including a young girl with a cardiac condition who is currently hospitalized and under close observation.

The return journey was complicated by international events affecting the Region, but the team came back tired yet grateful, with the certainty that every gesture of support truly becomes care, presence, and impact.

Every mission is made possible thanks to your support. Sometimes we bring medicine, sometimes comfort — often both. If you’d like to continue being part of this path alongside those in need, you can do so today: every donation, large or small, truly makes a difference.
